Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program (UCAP)

In accordance with the mission of the United Church of Christ to support public education, the Seekonk Congregational Church has been involved with the Urban Collaborative Accelerated program (UCAP) over the past 2 decades. UCAP is an alternative public school located in Providence serving 140 middle school students who are at risk of dropping out of public school. This innovative alternative school empowers students who have had limited opportunities and past difficulties in school to still achieve at high levels.

The late Founder and Director, Rob DeBlois, was a longtime member of the Seekonk Congregational Church Mission and Social Action Committee. Rev. Joy Utter, Senior Minister, comments that ‘attending a graduation ceremony at UCAP and hearing the testimonies of these students who have been given a second chance to enter high school strengthened with better skills, attitudes, and habits is one of the most uplifting experiences imaginable…and one of our church’s most rewarding moments came when we received a plaque honoring our connections with the school.’ This has been a ministry to bridge urban and suburban life and raise awareness of challenges in community together.
